RetroAchievements Not Detected for WiiWare .wad Files

📋 Summary

RetroAchievements may not be detected for WiiWare .wad files in LaunchBox, even though they are supported by RetroAchievements and work correctly in Dolphin.

❗ Issue

When scanning for RetroAchievements:

  • Wii games in .rvz and .iso format work as expected

  • WiiWare games in .wad format do not return achievements

  • This occurs even when the game is supported on RetroAchievements

The issue is caused by LaunchBox only applying the hashing logic to .rvz files, and not .wad files.

💡 Cause

Currently, LaunchBox:

  • Uses Dolphin tooling to generate a hash for RetroAchievements

  • Only runs this process for .rvz files

  • Does not apply the same logic to .wad files

As a result, .wad files are not properly identified when querying the RetroAchievements API.

🛠 Status

  • A fix has been identified

  • .wad files will be processed using the same hashing logic as .rvz files

  • Update will be included in a future LaunchBox release
