Filter Games by Emulator

šŸ“‹ Summary

Add the ability to filter games based on the emulator they are assigned to within LaunchBox.

ā— Problem

There is currently no way to easily view or manage games by emulator:

  • Users cannot filter games assigned to a specific emulator

  • Difficult to identify which games use a particular emulator or emulator version

  • No visibility in audit tools for emulator usage

  • Managing multi-emulator setups becomes cumbersome

This makes troubleshooting and library organization more difficult.

šŸ’” Proposal

Introduce emulator based filtering and auditing:

  • Add Emulator as a filter option in the game list

  • Allow users to:

    • View all games assigned to a specific emulator

    • Filter by emulator version where applicable

  • Include emulator data in the Audit tool/report, such as:

    • Emulator name

    • Associated platform

    • Game count per emulator

🧩 Use Cases

  • A user wants to see all games using SNES9x

  • A user audits which titles are using a specific version of MAME or DOSBox-X

  • A user migrates games from one emulator to another

  • A user troubleshoots emulator specific issues across their library

šŸ“¦ Benefits

  • Improves visibility and control over emulator assignments

  • Simplifies troubleshooting and cleanup workflows

  • Enhances support for multi-emulator setups

  • Makes audit tools more powerful and informative

āš ļø Considerations

  • Should account for platform level vs game level emulator assignments

  • UI should remain simple when handling multiple emulator versions

  • Needs to integrate cleanly with existing filter and audit systems

I like the idea of adding a filter option for game specific assigned emulators. šŸ‘

Until (if/when) this gets implemented, there is a plugin that can provide this information.

I’d like to get a list of game using a specific emulator, e.g. which C64 games are using Vice, or which games are using a specific version of mame or dosbox-x.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the request, this is an interesting one šŸ‘

Just so we can better understand and scope this properly, could you share a bit more about your use case?

    • What are you trying to achieve by filtering or auditing by emulator?

    • Is this mainly for managing multiple emulators per platform, or identifying which games are assigned to a specific emulator?

    • In the audit report, what kind of information would you expect to see tied to the emulator?

    • Would this be something you’d use for cleanup, troubleshooting, or general library organisation?

Any examples of how you’d use this in your current setup would be really helpful as well. This will help us make sure any solution fits real workflows rather than just adding another filter option.

    Cheers!
